Middle School Philosophy

Middle school students are grade 7-9 students between the ages of 11 and 15 years old.  Our staff recognizes the unique needs of this group of learners and we carefully plan programming to support the gradual growth of independence.  Grade 7 students are provided significant assistance to make an easy transition to their new bigger school.  All grade 7 students are provided a crate to keep school supplies in the classroom.  Their lunch time is separate from everyone else and they have a closed campus, meaning they cannot leave the campus during the day.   In grade 8 and 9, students are supported and encouraged to take on more responsibility and leadership so they are naturally prepared for high school.  Students will take religion, language arts, math, social, science, physical education and health as required by Alberta Learning.  As well, students will have an opportunity to choose from a variety of options to complete their schedule.

The cornerstone to student success is the involvement of parents in this school experience.  For further information please access the Curriculum Handbook for parents: http://education.alberta.ca/parents/resources/handbook.aspx.

Options include a wide variety of topics including arts, athletics, academic support and career studies.  Students choose options on the first day of school in September and again in mid January for second semester.  Check the Course Selection Handbook under the Middle School tab.
