Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo Election Results (Mayor, Councillors, Trustees)
The general election for the School Boards, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, and all School Boards/Municipalities in Alberta will be held on October 20, 2025.
New rules are in place for 2025 municipal election:
New provincial legislation means voters must register to vote in the upcoming 2025 municipal election - register online now with Elections Alberta by August 15, 2025. Those who are not already registered when it is time to vote will need to complete the full registration process at the polls.

Advance Voting
Advanced Polls are open on specific dates ranging from October 3 - 17, 2025. Please visit the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo website for dates and locations.
Election Day
Polls will be open from 8am to 9pm October 20, 2025. For poll locations please visit the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo website.
Who is eligible to vote for Trustee?
A person is eligible to vote in an election held pursuant to this Act (Local Authorities Election Act section 47) if the person
- is at least 18 years old,
- is a Canadian citizen, and
- is a resident of the School Division on Election Day
- The Alberta Education Act section 74 (3) states - “Where a separate school district is established, an individual residing within the boundaries of the separate school district is a resident of the separate school division if the individual declares that the individual is of the same faith as those who established the separate school district, whether Protestant or Roman Catholic.”
- In the case of this particular election- this section does mean a person must declare they are of the Catholic faith to vote for Trustee in the Fort McMurray Roman Catholic Separate School Division.

Who is eligible to run for Trustee?
A person may be nominated as a candidate if on nomination day the person: (Local Authorities Election Act section 21)
- is eligible to vote in that election,
- has been a resident of the local jurisdiction for the 6 consecutive months immediately preceding nomination day, and
- is not otherwise ineligible or disqualified.
