29th Anniversary of Traditional Celebration of Achievement

(Fort McMurray, AB, May 22, 2026)  This week we were honoured to watch students from our region participate in the Traditional Celebration of Achievement on May 21, 2026. Over 100 Indigenous students in our area are receiving diplomas this year, 55 of these graduates represent Fort McMurray Catholic Schools.

The Traditional Celebration of Achievement (TCOA) recognizes and honours First Nations, Metis, and Inuit (FNMI) graduates of the Wood Buffalo region. Students from Fort McMurray, Fort Chipewyan, Fort McKay, Anzac, Janvier, and Conklin were all recognized. The inaugural TCOA was held in 1998.

“Congratulations to all Métis, First Nations, and Inuit graduates across the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo! On behalf of our Board of Trustees, we proudly celebrate this important milestone with you. Your hard work, perseverance, and accomplishments are a true inspiration. Thank you to you and your families for allowing us to be part of your educational journey. As you begin this exciting new chapter, we pray that God the Creator continues to bless and guide your path. We look forward to seeing all that you will accomplish in the years ahead.” - Dale Barfoot, Board Chair, Fort McMurray Catholic Schools

“From modest beginnings, the Traditional Celebration of Achievement has grown into this beautiful evening that honours and celebrates our Indigenous graduates, their families, cultures, and accomplishments. It is a true blessing and privilege to be part of your educational journey and to witness the gifts, strength, and spirit each of you bring to our schools and community. As you begin the next chapter of your lives, know that we will continue to cheer you on with pride and prayers. We look forward to hearing the stories of your future successes and all the wonderful paths the Creator leads you toward.” - Natasha MacArthur-Poole, Superintendent, Fort McMurray Catholic Schools

Thank you to all of the organizers on the TCOA committee. It is inspiring to see these students cross the stage each year and know the opportunities available to them. We at Fort McMurray Catholic Schools are pleased to be a part of their success.

Congratulations Graduates!
